The festival begins, Thursday, September 23, and ends on Thursday, September 30. On Friday,
October 1, the 15 best films will be repeated at Zeise Kino in Hamburg-Altona, Friedensallee
7-9.
In English
Of the 121 films to be shown, 25 are in the original English and 68 have English subtitles.
The other 28 are in German or have German subtitles. This is the only week you can see 93
films in English in Hamburg. Many of the films with subtitles are in their original Spanish,
French, Turkish, etc., which is an added enticement for practicing your third or fourth language.
OF = original version; OmU = original version with German subtitles; OmeU = original version
with English subtitles.
How Much
Tickets cost a flat rate of EUR 7,50 except for the premiere, which is EUR 8,50. Children’s
films are only EUR 3,50. Ask about special group rates.

Films are at the following five cinemas. Bus 5 goes to all except 3001 Kino.

The U.S. Before the Election
Five films are grouped under the topic "The U.S. Before the Election on November 2"
(Amerika vor der Wahl). These
highly recommended films are:

- The Hunting of the President on September 26, 5 p.m. at UFA Grindel 3
- Land of Plenty on September 25 at 8 p.m. at Cinemaxx 1
- September Tapes on September 27 at 7 p.m. at UFA Grindel or on September 30 at
9:45 at Abaton.
Children’s Films
All eight children’s films will be at UFA Grindel.
Let’s Talk About It
Every night at 10:30 p.m., Phillip Bergson, British film expert and critic, will interview
all film people (directors, actors, etc.) who are in the city on that given day. Usually their
films will have also been shown on that day. You are invited to attend free of charge and
participate in the discussions. The first two nights will be in German and after that in English.
This will be at the Kammer Theater, Hartungstraße 9-11, between Hallerstraße (U-1)
and Grindelhof (Bus 5).
Prizes
The Douglas Sirk Prize goes to Francios Ozon, director of 5 x 2, for his overall
work.
The Otto Sprenger Preis for best first film goes to Ayse Polat for En Garde.
Seven children will choose the best children’s film.
Four Hamburg critics will award a prize to the best from 12 nominated films.
Your vote will select Audience’s Favorite.
The Best TV film will receive EUR 30,000.
