*  Fit For Travel

For all sorts of information on how to keep yourself healthy while traveling, the Infoservice des Tropeninstitutes der Universität München (Infoservice of the Tropical Institute of the University of Munich) is the website to go to (http://www.fitfortravel.de). Although it's a German site, most of the information can be viewed in English if you click on the "english version" link in the lower left corner of their home page. Of particular interest to club member Jennifer M are the instructions on how to minimize jetlag, found in the vor Reiseantritt (Travel Guide) section. The interactive jetlag map can be found only in the German version of the pages (by selecting vor Reiseantritt, then Jetlag from the list on the left, and then Jetlag-Info next to the Toucan in the upper right), and it gives specific instructions based on how far from Germany you're traveling. Other information can be found on the topics of Malaria protection, Immunizations, Diseases, Top News of interest to the traveler, and much more.

*  Genealogy

Check to see whether your ancestors immigrated to the new world from the Hamburg harbor.

Hamburg is in the middle of a project called "Link to Your Roots", which provides information about Hamburg as a port of emigration as well as gives you the opportunity to see if your ancestors emigrated through Hamburg. You can check out all of this information on the internet at the following address: http://www.hamburg.de/fhh/behoerden/staatsarchiv/link_to_your_roots/english/index.htm.

Check their site periodically to see whether the years you are interested in have been included (as of November 2002 the years 1890-1902 were available). Eventually they hope to have the years 1850-1934 online.

*  Telephone Information

Can't find your telephone book? The Teleauskunft site (http://www.teleauskunft.de) contains all kinds of telephone information -- yellow pages, white pages, e-mail addresses, etc. for the whole of Germany. Click on the word English in the upper left corner of the site.
